West Plains Ozark regional cattle sales report

The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Missouri, reported receipts of 2,479 head selling on Feb. 6, compared to 4,523 head a week ago and 2,557 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves were selling $3 to $6 higher with peewee weights selling fully $10 higher. Yearling steers and heifers were lightly tested but undertones were steady to weak. Demand was very good on a moderate supply. The quality of the offering was much improved this week as producers brought calves in early to beat the forecast of ice in the Ozarks. With markets showing signs of stability, buyers were busy filling orders for calves that will be ready when the grass turn green. The feeder cattle supply included 51% steers, 46% heifers and 3% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 42%.
