Joplin Regional cattle sales report
The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Carthage, Missouri, reported receipts of 4,467 head selling on Feb. 5, compared to 9,324 head a week ago and 5,019 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling $2 to $5 higher, steers and heifers over 600 pounds were selling steady. Demand was good, supply moderate to light. Receipts lighter than expected due to single digit temperatures and a winter storm that made travel hazardous. The feeder cattle supply included 55% steers, 0% dairy steers, 40% heifers and 5% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 60%.
