Food drive helps Kansans in need, celebrates agriculture

Kansas Livestock Association and the Kansas Beef Council are part of the agriculture community involved in a month-long, statewide food drive to reduce hunger and honor Kansas Agriculture Month. The Neighbor to Neighbor Food Drive is a collaborative effort put together each March by the Kansas Department of Agriculture, Dillon’s Food Stores, Harvesters – The Community Food Network, the Kansas Food Bank, the Second Harvest Community Food Bank and Kansas agriculture groups.

Collection points for donated non-perishable food items will be available in all Dillon’s stores across the state during the month-long drive. The top food items in need are peanut butter, soup, canned meat, canned fruit and cereal. Shoppers also can donate cash at the checkout counter or visit http://ksn2n.harvestersvfd.org/ to contribute online.

The food drive is one of several events planned around the celebration of Kansas Agriculture Month and Kansas and National Ag Day March 20. Throughout the month, the ag community also will discuss agriculture-related topics on social media, ranging from animal welfare to environmental stewardship to food security.
