Springfield cattle market report

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Missouri, reported receipts of 2,323 head on Feb. 28, compared to 599 head last week and 1,923 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.

There were too few numbers last week for a good price comparison. When compared to two weeks ago, the steers weighign under 700 pounds were selling $2 to $8 higher, the heifers under 650 pounds were steady, the steers over 700 pounds and heifers over 650 pounds were steady to $3 lower. The Holsteins under 600 pounds were steady to $5 lower, those 600 to 850 pounds were selling $5 to $10 lower and those over 900 pounds experienced an undertone sharply higher with little comparison from two weeks ago. The demand was moderate to good and the supply was moderate. The feeder cattle supply included 48% steers, 13% was dairy steers, 31% was heifers and 8% was bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 50%.
