Springfield cattle auction report
The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Missouri, reported receipts of 2,281 head on March 14, compared to 2,703 head last week and 1,439 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, the steers were steady and the heifers were steady to $5 lower. The Holsteins weighing under 500 pounds were steady compared to a limited test two weeks ago, those 500 to 700 pounds were selling $5 to $9 higher, the 700-pound weights were steady and those over 800 pounds were selling $10 lower. The demand was moderate to good and the supply was moderate to heavy. The demand was best for cattle with flesh condition suitable to graze. The feeder cattle supply included 28% steers, 23% was dairy steers, 34% was heifers and 15% was bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 40%.
