Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Stockyards, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, reported receipts of 1,785 head selling on March 19, compared to 2,003 head a week ago and 700 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers were selling $6 to $13 lower, mostly $8 lower. Feeder heifers under 500 pounds were selling $2 to $10 lower, over 500 pounds were selling steady to $1 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $3 to $4 lower. Value added denotes calves that have been weaned at least 45 days, castrated and administered two sets of pre-conditioning vaccines. The supply included 1,316 feeder calves, 264 feeder yearlings, 91 replacement cows, 94 slaughter cows and 20 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply included 52% steers, 42% heifers and 7% bulls. Near 18% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
