High Plains average direct slaughter cattle sales report

The St. Joseph weekly weighted average direct slaughter cattle sales for the week ending April 8, totaled 77,497 head selling, compared to 91,287 head a week ago and 51,268 head last year, according to the USDA Livestock, Poultry and Grain Market News Division, St. Joseph, Missouri.

The report was based on sales in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa and Minnesota feedlots.

Steers: Live FOB basis, over 80% Choice, 8,042 head, 1,275 to 1,550 lbs., 114.00 to 121.00 (116.98); 65 to 80% Choice, 11,664 head, 1,200 to 1,525 lbs., 109.00 to 119.50 (116.61); 35 to 65% Choice, 5,694 head, 1,200 to 1,425 lbs., 115.00 to 118.00 (116.63). Dressed delivered basis, over 80% Choice, 7,438 head, 760 to 1,016 lbs., 184.00 to 197.00 (188.14); 65 to 80% Choice, 3,195 head, 806 to 938 lbs., 184.00 to 190.00 (186.87); 35 to 65% Choice, 162 head, 798 to 851 lbs., 185.00 to 188.00 (186.44).
