Winter Livestock Auction report

The Winter Livestock Auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 3,060 head on April 18, compared to 2,249 head last week and 2,817 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.

Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers weighing 700 to 1,000 pounds were selling $2 to $5 higher. The feeder heifers from 700 to 950 pounds were selling $2 to $5 higher on a light supply of medium and large frame 1 stock. The steer and heifer calves experienced a firm to higher undertone on a light test. The trade was active and the demand was good. The slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $2 higher. The feeder supply was 70% steers and 30% was heifers with 93% weighing 600 pounds and over.
