Dalhart livestock auction report
The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,627 head selling on May 10, compared to 1,534 head a week ago and 2,007 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves were trading mostly steady, a few pre- to conditioned kinds under 500 pounds were selling firm to $2 higher. Feeder steers and heifers over 700 pounds were selling weak to $2 lower. Receipts on offer were mostly pre-conditioned and several load lots carrying excessive fill. Slaughter cows and bulls weak to $1 lower. Trade was fairly active. Demand was fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 10%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1%, and feeders 90%. The feeder supply included 54% steers and 46% heifers. Nearly 59% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
