Russell feeder cattle auction report
The Russell Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report, Russell, Iowa, reported receipts of 5,090 head selling on May 28, compared to 2,587 head selling on May 14 and 5,615 head last year, according to the USDA-Iowa Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Des Moines, Iowa.
Compared to the May 14 sale, feeder steers under 550 pounds were selling mostly $3 to $4 lower, feeder steers over 550 pounds were selling mostly $4 to $5 higher and feeder heifers under 550 pounds were selling mostly $1 to $2 lower, feeder heifers over 550 pounds were selling mostly $1 to $2 higher. Trade was active and demand was moderate. Receipts this week included 47% feeder cattle over 600 pounds, 56% of the feeders were steers and 46% were heifers.
