Winter Livestock auction report

The Winter Livestock cattle auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 920 head on May 30, compared to 1,516 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.

Compared to two weeks ago, the feeder steers weighing 600 to 650 pounds and 700 to 750 pounds were selling $2 to $5 higher and those 850 to 900 pounds were selling $7 higher on an extremely light test of medium and large frame 1 stock. The feeder heifers from 600 to 650 pounds were selling $4 higher and those 750 to 800 pounds were selling $2 to $6 higher on an extremely light test of medium and large frame 1 stock. The steer and heifer calves experienced a firm to higher undertone that was noted on a light test of medium and large frame 1 stock. The trade and demand was moderate. The slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $3 lower. The feeder supply was 60% steers and 40% was heifers with 81% weighing 600 pounds and over.
