Joplin Regional cattle sales report

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Carthage, Missouri, reported receipts of 6,481 head selling on July 9, compared to 6,123 head a week ago and 5,088 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Steers and heifers were selling steady to $3 lower, following a week ago’s sharply higher trade. Demand and supply was moderate. Most of the trade area is in need of moisture as pastures are short and stock water is a concern for some producers. The feeder cattle supply included 44% steers, 0% dairy steers, 50% heifers and 6% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 46%.
