Dalhart livestock auction report
The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,591 head selling on July 12, compared to 843 head June 28 and 1,748 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to the June 28 sale, steer and heifer calves under 400 pounds were not well tested, 400- to 600-pound steer and heifer calves were selling steady to weak except 400 to 500 pound steers were trading firm to $4 higher. A few load lots of feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were selling firm to $3 higher compared to a light offering at the previously reported sale. Scattered locations around the trade area remain in extreme drought conditions and a few un-weaned calves off these acres are beginning to come to town. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady. Trade was active. Demand was fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 34%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 66%. The feeder supply included 56% steers and 44% heifers.
