Pratt Livestock Auction report
The Pratt Livestock Auction, Pratt, Kansas, reported receipts of 2,395 head selling on Aug. 23, compared to 2,666 head a week ago and 2,915 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kansas.
Compared to a week ago, feeder steers 900 to 950 pounds were selling $2 to $3 higher, with a slightly lower undertone noted on all other comparable weights. Feeder heifers of comparable weights were selling mostly steady. The offerings included several load lots carrying excessive flesh. There were not enough steer and heifer calves of comparable weights for a market test. Demand was good to very good. Quality was average to mostly attractive. Slaughter cows were selling $2 to $5 higher on limited offerings. Slaughter bulls were selling steady on few offerings. The feeder supply was 48% steers, 52% heifers, with 95% over 600 pounds.
