Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction report

The Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 2,416 head selling on Aug. 31, compared to 2,779 head a week ago and 2,359 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The last feeder sale was Aug. 17, which makes for a limited comparison. Best comparisons available were on the 900- to 950-pound steers which were selling steady, the 850- to 950-pound heifers were selling steady to $2 dollars lower depending on the kind. There was good to very good demand for this nice offering of yearlings off grass as many buyers were trying to acquire cattle. Quality was attractive with most cattle being light to moderate flesh condition. The offering was 100% over 600 pounds with 29% steers, 71% heifers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 11 head, 853 lbs., 154.00; 903 to 916 lbs., 150.75 to 154.25 (153.20).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 22 head, 700 lbs., 159.50; 759 to 792 lbs., 147.00 to 154.50 (152.74); 827 to 839 lbs., 147.75 to 149.00 (147.91); 857 to 887 lbs., 142.00 to 152.25 (146.75); 17 head, 894 lbs., 140.50 fleshy; 913 to 946 lbs., 135.00 to 144.75 (140.05); 951 to 995 lbs., 135.25 to 142.50 (140.88). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 15 head, 627 lbs., 154.00. Large frame 1, 10 head, 1010 lbs., 138.50.
