West Plains Regional cattle sales report
The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Missouri, reported receipts of 3,744 head selling on Sept. 25, compared to 3,313 head a week ago and 3,632 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves were trading uneven from $3 lower to $3 higher while yearling steers were trading $3 to $6 higher. Heifer calves were selling $2 to $5 higher with yearling heifers lightly tested. Demand was good and improved throughout the day. The supply was moderate with the quality of the offering above average. The USDA released its Cattle on Feed Report a week ago which placed inventories 6% higher than a year ago with placements 7% higher and marketings slightly ahead of last year. The feeder cattle supply included 53% steers, 1% dairy steers, 42% heifers and 4% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 36%.
