The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Swisher County Ag Committee will be hosting the Swisher County Cotton Tour on Oct. 8.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Tule Creek Gin, located 4 miles south of Tulia on Texas Highway 87. A sponsored lunch will be served to the group.
The cost of the tour will be $10, and while payment can be made onsite, RSVPs are requested by Oct. 5. Any individuals wishing to attend the program, or who want more information should call the AgriLife Extension office in Swisher County at 806-995-3726.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units—one each in general, drift and integrated pest management will be given.
The first stop at 9 a.m. will be at the Brenden Adams Bayer Trial, located a half mile west of the gin on the east Interstate 27 access road. The next stop will be at the Reed Farms Bayer Fibermax Trial, located 2.5 miles south of Kress and a quarter mile west on County Road DD.
From this location, the group will go to lunch at the Jeremy Reed Barn where Will Keeling, AgriLife Extension economist in Lubbock, will deliver information regarding the seed cotton topics in the farm bill.
After lunch, the tour will move to the Swisher County Replicated Agronomic Cotton Evaluation, or RACE, Trial, located 3 miles south of Kress on the west I-27 access road. The final stop of the day will be at the Goss Phytogen Trial, 1 mile west of Tule Creek Gin.
Door prizes will be given throughout and at the end of the tour, a grand prize 45-quart cooler filled with beef will be given, said John Villalba, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Swisher County.
