Winter Livestock Auction report
The Winter Livestock Auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 6,095 head selling on Oct. 24, compared to 3,592 head a week ago and 2,537 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.
Compared to a week ago, feeder steers 900 to 950 pounds were selling $1 to $3 higher, with a steady to slightly lower undertone noted on all other comparable weights. Feeder heifers 700 to 750 pounds were selling $1 to $3 higher, with a steady to slightly higher undertone noted on all other comparable weights. Heavy supply of steer and heifer calves offered with a weaker undertone noted on unweaned calves. Steer calves were selling $3 to $5 lower, and heifer calves were selling $5 to $10 lower. Slaughter cows were selling $6 to $7 higher. Bulls were selling steady on a limited test. Overall, demand was good to very good, quality average to mostly attractive. The feeder supply included 55% steers, 45% heifers, with 72% over 600 pounds. Bred heifer and cow sale, the supply included 03% first calf, 74% bred cows, 09% cow/calf pairs and 03% replacement heifers.
