Springfield dairy heifer sales report
The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Missouri, reported receipts of 931 head of dairy heifers selling on Oct. 23, compared to 1,063 head Sept. 23 and 941 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Springfield, Missouri.
The supply was heavy and included three herd dispersals. The demand was moderate to light, especially late in the sale. Included were 10% springer heifers, 14% bred heifers, 33% open heifers, 15% fresh and milking cows, 03% bred and springer cows and 07% baby calves. The balance was steers, bulls and slaughter cows. Prices reported are on a per head basis and for Holsteins unless noted otherwise.
Springer heifers: Bred seven to nine months, Supreme 800.00 to 950.00. Approved 685.00 to 780.00, few crossbreds 700.00 to 750.00. Medium 525.00 to 650.00. Common 200.00 to 500.00. Heifers bred three to six months, Supreme 800.00 to 1000.00, crossbreds 800.00 to 835.00. Approved 690.00 to 785.00, few Jerseys 700.00. Medium 490.00 to 675.00, crossbreds 500.00 to 675.00. Common 160.00 to 450.00, crossbreds 360.00 to 450.00. Heifers bred one to three months, Supreme individual 880.00. Approved to package of 3 to 775.00. Medium 500.00 to 650.00.
