Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction report

The Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 8,392 head selling on Nov. 2, compared to 8,131 head a week ago and 9,206 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Compared to a week ago, steer calves were selling from $2 lower to $2 higher, depending on quality and condition. Heifer calves were selling $2 higher to $2 lower, except the 550 pounds to 600 pound heifers were selling steady to $3 higher. The market showed stronger undertones compared to a week ago. No price comparison was made on the yearling market due to limited numbers offered. Calves and yearlings were met with good buyer demand, with lots of buyers in attendance trying to purchase cattle. Most of the calves were fully pre-conditioned and straight off the cow. Yearling cattle were off grass and were in light to moderate flesh condition. Long strings of calves offered buyers the opportunity to put multiple loads of one owner cattle together. Numerous partloads and packages available for buyers to put loads together. The offering included 24% over 600 pounds, with 62% steers and 38% heifers.
