Amarillo Livestock Auction report
The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 357 head selling on Nov. 13, compared to 946 head a week ago and 1,050 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to a week ago, calves were selling with a lower undertone on a light test. Yearling heifers were selling $2 lower on limited comparable sales. Trade activity was slow on light to moderate demand as snow throughout the area hampered cattle movement. Slaughter cows and bulls were trading steady. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 11%, 5% were replacements and 84% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 38% steers and bulls, 62% heifers. Approximately 55% of the run weighed over 600 lbs. This report will not be issued the next two weeks due to reporter’s absence. Next sale will be Dec. 3.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 head, 652 lbs., 108.00 calves; 5 head, 697 lbs., 91.00 fleshy; 70 head, 776 lbs., 136.00. Slaughter cows: Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 37.50 to 40.00; high dressing, 42.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 36.00 to 37.50.
Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 2000 lbs., 67.50.
Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, aged to broken mouth, 950 to 1175 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred 435.00 to 610.00 per head.
Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to aged, 800 to 1100 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves 685.00 to 875.00; aged, 1200 to 1300 lbs., with 150- to 250-lb. calves 1010.00 to 1150.00 per pair.
