Winter Livestock Auction report
The Winter Livestock Auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 2,343 head selling on Nov. 14, compared to 2,964 head a week ago and 3,138 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.
Compared to a week ago, feeder steers 850 to 900 pounds were selling $2 to $3 lower. Using a limited test, a higher undertone was noted on all comparable weights 650 pounds and lighter. There were very few offerings of feeder heifers. 600 to 650 pounds were selling $7 to $8 higher using a limited test, with a slightly lower undertone noted on all other comparable weights. In steer and heifer calves, a higher demand was noted for 450 lbs and less. Slaughter cows were selling mostly steady. There were not enough bulls for a market test. Overall, demand was moderate to good, quality was average to attractive. The feeder supply was 54% steers, 46% heifers, with 74% over 600 pounds. Bred heifer and cow sale supply included 00% first calf, 100% bred cows, 00% cow/calf pairs and 00% replacement heifers.
