Winter Livestock Auction report
The Winter Livestock Auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 5,101 head selling Dec. 5, compared to 3,892 head a week ago and 4,026 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.
Compared to a week ago, feeder steers 550 to 600 pounds were selling $2 to $7 lower, 700 to 750 pounds were selling $6 to $7 lower, 800 to 900 pounds were selling $2 to $7 lower. Feeder heifers 550 to 600 pounds were selling $1 to $6 lower, 700 to 750 pounds were selling $2 to $3 lower, 800 to 850 pounds were selling steady to $1 lower. Steer calves 500 to 550 pounds were selling $3 to $7 higher, 600 to 750 pounds were selling mostly $1 to $2 lower. A higher undertone was noted on 500 pounds and lighter on a limited test. Heifer calves 450 to 500 pounds were selling $1 lower. Buyers discounted calves that were short to weaned and un-vaccinated. Slaughter cows were selling mostly steady to $1 lower. Bulls were selling $4 to $5 lower on limited offerings. Overall, demand was good to very good, quality was average to attractive. The feeder supply was 56% steers, 43% heifers, 01% bulls, with 56% over 600 pounds. Bred heifer and cows, the supply was 00% first calf, 99% bred cows. 01% cow/calf pairs and 00% replacement heifers.
