Clovis cattle auction results

The Clovis Livestock Auction, Clovis, New Mexico, reported sales of 2,404 head of cattle selling June 12, compared to 1,593 head the previous week and 1,803 head a year ago, according to the USDA-New Mexico Department of Agriculture Market News, Portales, New Mexico.

When compared to the previous week, the steer and heifer calves and feeders were uneven and mostly selling $2 to $4 higher with instances of $8 higher on 500 to 600 pounds and 700 to 800 pounds were selling $2 lower. The slaughter cows were steady to $1 higher and the bulls were selling $4 higher but the quality was more attractive. The supply included 80% feeder cattle with about 60% steers were 40% heifers and 1% were bulls; 6% was slaughter cattle with 86% cows and 14% were bulls; 14% was replacement cattle with 38% bred cows, 1% were bred heifers, 57% were cow-calf pairs and 4% were heifer pairs. The feeder cattle supply weighing over 600 pounds was 67%.
