Angus genetics showcased at 2024 National Western Angus Pen and Carload Show
Angus producers competed for top honors during the 2024 National Western Stock Show Angus Pen and Carload Show, Jan. 13, in Denver, Colorado. Two carloads and 22 pens-of-three were showcased in the yards during the NWSS.
Adam Sawyer, Bassett, Nebraska; Doug Stevenson, Laurel, Montana; and John Toledo, Visalia, California; evaluated the bulls and heifers before selecting champions.
Krebs Ranch, Gordon, Nebraska, claimed grand champion carload, with 10 January and February 2023 bulls and are sired by KR Splash 8903F, TR Sully 0073H, Connealy I Beam, Kraye Big Country 0179, Panther Cr Incredible 6704, KR Rally 9064, 8N Academy 2101 and LAR Man In Black. The group weighed an average of 1,307 pounds and posted an average scrotal circumference of 37.7 centimeters.
Chestnut Angus Farm, Pipestone, Minnesota, claimed reserve grand champion carload, with 10 January 2023 bulls and are sired by Hoffman Thedford, Chestnut United, Sterling Bond 007, Mill Brae Benchmark 9016, Chestnut Haus 231 and KR Storm 900. The group weighed an average of 1,343 pounds and posted an average scrotal circumference of 37.4 centimeters.
Krebs Ranch also showcased the grand champion pen of three bulls with January 2023 sons of SITZ Incentive 704H, Connealy Hayday, and KR Splash 8903F. The trio posted an average weight of 1,348 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 36.8 centimeters. The bulls first won early calf champion.
Conley Cattle, Sulphur, Oklahoma, captured the reserve grand champion pen of three bulls after first claiming late calf champion. The February, March and April 2023 sons of J Trademark 1037 posted an average weight of 1,160 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 32.0 centimeters.
Chestnut Angus Farm also showcased the grand champion pen of three heifers. The January and February 2023 daughters of Chestnut United, HF Safe & Sound 019 and VZR Diamond Jack 1905 posted an average weight of 987 pounds. They first claimed early calf champion.
Bar S Ranch Inc., Paradise, Kansas, captured the reserve grand champion pen of three heifers with April 2023 daughters of Sitz Barricade 632F. The trio posted an average weight of 870 pounds. They first won late calf champion.
