Janel: Gone cutting wheat

South Dakota – We got moved north and when we arrived we unloaded and went straight to the field. I love that by the way! That’s how harvest is supposed to be! We cut winter wheat that yielded well and the test weights were 59 to 60 pounds per bushel. The crop is standing good and is nice overall.

We are now cutting spring wheat. It’s also yielding well and the test weights are good. However, our daily temperatures have cooled down and there’s rain in the forecast the next few days. I just want to get the wheat cut and stay as busy as possible.

Our crews in Montana have been staying consistently busy. They have also had cooler temperatures this past week. Summer wheat harvest has a way of flying by each season. I love being gone cutting wheat. It’s now August 1 and in another month we’ll be thinking about going back south for fall harvest.

All loaded up in Nebraska and ready to move north to the Dakotas. I love this part of the summer wheat harvest!

Moving north. South Dakota is full of soybeans and so much corn.
Cutting winter wheat!
Cutting winter wheat. I love cutting this field. About a mile to the west my dog Wag is buried in the tree-line. I always think of him when we’re here. That was thirty-two years ago but I’ll never forget that cute puppy dog. He was so cute.
Cutting spring wheat.
A nice field of spring wheat.
High humidity and clouds is making it tough to dry down.
