Stage two of USDA’s Supplemental Disaster Relief Program open for enrollment
Stage two of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Supplemental Disaster Relief Program is now open for enrollment. Additionally, the department announced that SDRP will extend aid for uninsured crop losses to disaster events in 2023 and 2024.
Covered disasters include drought, excessive moisture, hurricanes, freeze, derechos, wildfire, and other major weather events.
Stage two of the program will use crop insurance and Farm Service Agency data for producer applications. Payments will be calculated using the difference between expected and actual value, crop insurance coverage, premiums, and an SDRP factor tied to the base policy.
Payments are subject to a 35% factor, though USDA expects this rate to rise after total claims are submitted. Payment limits apply, with higher caps available to producers who obtain at least 75% of their income from farming. USDA stated in the future recipients must purchase crop insurance or Noninsured Disaster Assistance Program coverage at 60% or higher for the next two crop years. The program is available for sign-up through April 30, 2026. To learn more and apply, visit www.fsa.usda.gov/resources/programs/supplemental-disaster-relief-program-sdrp.
