South Dakota Gov. Larry Rhoden announced Jerry Schmitz of Vermillion has been named the 2026 Governor’s Ag Ambassador, one of the state’s highest honors recognizing outstanding leadership, service and advocacy within the industry.
A lifelong farmer and agricultural leader, Schmitz has served South Dakota producers for decades. He was a founding member of the South Dakota Soybean Association and later held leadership roles at both the state and national levels, including with the American Soybean Association. His work helped expand market opportunities and advance research and innovation.
Schmitz will receive the Governor’s Ag Ambassador Award during the 2026 Governor’s Ag Summit on June 25 in Pierre.
