Fort Benton, Montana and Williston, North Dakota: Wheat harvest has improved greatly since getting to Montana. We did see averages rise as much as 130 bushels per acre in Barley once we moved over by the Highwood Mountains. Harvest did go really fast out there, and we moved a couple of machines over to Fortuna, ND about two and half weeks ago.
It has been such a wonderful feeling to be working consistently and keeping our crew busy. We have only just scratched the surface on acres around North Dakota. Lentils and canola have been ready to start, but soon we should be getting into some wheat fields. I think North Dakota will be ongoing for a few more weeks.
We left Cameron back in Montana with a couple machines to finish up field peas. He was able to dodge storms enough to finally get finished up. He moved the rest of the equipment and crew to North Dakota, so everyone is back together again. We’re really grateful for safe moves.
Zoey and I have headed home for school. We just got back, and today is Zoey’s first day of 6th grade. She’s excited to start school as an official middle schooler, but I know she misses the field. I’m glad the guys will eventually be back around for fall harvest so she can help out on the weekends.
Crops around home look great. Beans might be on the verge of changing, but I think it’ll still be at least a couple weeks before any machines are needed back this way. Our area did see one really bad storm that was borderline straight winds, or a small tornado. Incredibly enough, I haven’t seen any corn crops laying down. That is a relief. But damage was certainly done. Recovery from the damage is still in the process of getting repaired, but thankfully no one was hurt.
This time of year there’s a lot of transitioning to different places, and different crops. Hopefully equipment runs well, and the weather decides to cooperate so we can get finished up. I’m looking forward to the fall season beginning.
