President approves major disaster declaration for Kansas
The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced federal disaster assistance is available to the state of Kansas to supplement recovery efforts in areas affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding June 4 to 15.
Federal public assistance funding is available to the state, tribal and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair of facilities damaged by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding. The declaration designated Atchison, Brown, Cherokee, Crawford, Dickinson, Edwards, Geary, Haskell, Hodgeman, Jackson, Lincoln, Marshall, Mitchell, Morris, Nemaha, Ness, Osage, Osborne, Ottawa, Pawnee, Pottawatomie, Rice, Riley, Rush, Russell, Saline, Sherman, Stafford, Wabaunsee and Washington counties, as well as the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska and the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas.
Willie G. Nunn has been named as the federal coordinating officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas. Additional designations may be made if the state requests them and the results of further damage assessments warrant them.
