Nebraska Extension will host an informational meeting on range recovery after wildfire at 4 p.m. Oct. 14, with participants meeting at the Oshkosh Methodist Church, then traveling to the range sites for viewing and discussion.
The program will include a tour of area pastures burned in the Morrill fire to assess recovery progress. Mitch Stephenson, an associate professor in range management, will lead a discussion of the recovery process and keys to consider for grazing management through fall and winter as well as next spring and summer. Karla Wilke, a professor and management specialist in cow-calf and stocker cattle management, will present information on supplementation and feeding options for the cow herd, considering available feed and market prices.
After the range walk, participants are invited to return to the Oshkosh Methodist Church, where supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend, but to provide a meal count, contact Morgan Wiant at the Nebraska Extension Office in Oshkosh at 308-772-3311 or [email protected].
