Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,610 head selling on Oct. 25, compared to 2,492 head a week ago and 3,683 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves were selling $2 to $4 lower, feeder steers and heifers were selling steady to $1 lower. Slaughter cows were selling $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were not well tested. The trade area has continued to receive good rainfall making for good wheat prospects, however, corn producers still have a good bit of crop unharvested. Trade was fairly active. Demand fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 250- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 9%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 91%. The feeder supply included 66% steers and 34% heifers. Nearly 56% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
