McAlester livestock auction report
The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 600 head selling on Jan. 16, compared to 1,675 head a week ago and 1,500 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Compared to a week ago, all classes were lightly tested due to extreme cold temperatures. Steer calves under 600 pounds were selling steady to $3 lower, over 600 pounds were selling $1 to $6 higher. Heifer calves were trading $2 to $7 lower. Quality was average. Demand was moderate. The supply included 25% over 600 pounds with 38% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling $2 to $5 higher. Slaughter bulls were selling $4 lower. A total of 65 cows and bulls sold with 75% going to packers.
