Winter Livestock Auction report
The Winter Livestock Auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 2,934 head selling on Sept. 19, compared to 2,625 head a week ago and 3,218 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.
Compared to a week ago, feeder steers 850 to 900 pounds were selling $4 to $5 higher, 900 to 950 pounds were selling $1 to $2 higher, with a higher undertone on other comparable weights. Feeder heifers 550 to 600 pounds were selling $5 to $7 higher, 650 to 700 pounds were selling $3 to $4 higher with instances selling $9 higher. A slightly higher undertone was noted on other comparable weights. This was the first special calf sale of the season. Higher undertones were noted on calves with a very good demand. Quality was mostly attractive. Slaughter cow and bull offerings were selling steady to firm. The feeder supply was 66% steers, 34% heifers with 59% over 600 pounds.
