Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,534 head selling on May 3, compared to 1,897 head a week ago, according to the USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves and feeders under 700 pounds were selling firm to $2 higher compared to a week ago’s limited test. Feeder steers and heifers over 700 pounds were selling mostly firm to $1 higher. Receipts on offer were mostly pre-conditioned and moderate to thin fleshed. Slaughter cows and bulls were trading $3 to $4 lower. Trade was fairly active. Demand was fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 875-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 24%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 76%. The feeder supply included 44% steers and 56% heifers, with nearly 60% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
