AP FeedSense continuously monitors swine barn feed inventory

Low feed levels in a swine barn can compromise pig health and productivity. To help ensure proper nutrition, the FeedSense system from Assumption, Illinois-based Automated Production automatically monitors feed bin levels with minimal maintenance.

FeedSense uses modern optical sensors for remote feed inventory monitoring. The system sends automated alerts when feed levels are low or feed is added to the bin. The system also stores historical consumption patterns to support forecasting, ordering and feed conversion analysis.

“Our new FeedSense technology supports a range of corrugated bulk feed tanks and is built for harsh agricultural environments, including being dustproof, waterproof and UV-resistant,” said Alvarim Costa, AP senior product owner. Costa said other features include:

  • Can be retrofitted to existing feed bins with minimal tools and no structural modifications.
  • Operates independently of barn power using an integrated solar panel and rechargeable battery.
  • Every FeedSense reading includes an image captured from inside the bin, allowing users to view conditions without climbing the side of the bin.

FeedSense transmits data through the AP Connect app. For more information, producers can contact a dealer or visit automatedproduction.com.
