Aberdeen livestock auction report

The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 5,874 head on Feb. 14, compared to 7,004 head last week and 8,019 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers were steady to $4 higher, the feeder heifers weighing over 550 pounds were mostly steady to instances of $2 lower under 550 pounds were too lightly tested last week for comparison. There was good to very good demand for all weights and classes. There were many long strings and full loads of very attractive, high quality steers and heifers offered this week. The flesh condition ran more toward the heavy side than the light side. The market was very active throughout the sale, regardless of the flesh condition there were plenty of buyers for all offerings as the overall quality was so attractive. The steers made up 58% of the feeder supply and the heifers were 42% with 91% over 600 pounds.
