Salina livestock auction report
The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kansas, reported receipts of 3,229 head selling on Feb. 8, compared to 3,345 head a week ago and 3,720 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kansas.
Compared to a week ago, feeder steers under 500 pounds were selling unevenly steady on a light test. Feeder steers 500 to 650 pounds were selling $4 to $8 higher. Feeder steers 650 to 800 pounds were selling steady to $2 higher and feeder steers over 800 pounds were selling $2 to $4 lower. Feeder heifers under 600 pounds were selling $1 to $4 lower on a light test. Feeder heifers 600 to 700 pounds were selling steady to $5 higher. Feeder heifers over 700 pounds were selling mostly $1 lower with instances of up to $5 lower. Trade activity and buyer demand was moderate to good. The run of cattle consisted heavily of long weaned, pre-conditioned, home raised cattle with many coming off of wheat pastures. The supply was comprised of 95% feeder cattle with the balance being bred cows. In the feeder supply, 55% were steers and 45% were heifers with 87% of the supply weighing over 600 pounds.
