Winter Livestock auction report
The Winter Livestock feeder cattle auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 3,917 head on Feb. 21, compared to 2,443 head last week and 3,292 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.
Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers were firm to $2 higher. The feeder heifers from 600 to 700 pounds were steady to $4 higher and those from 750 to 800 pounds were selling $2 higher. The steer and heifer calves experienced an extremely higher undertone that was noted on a light test. The trade was active and the demand was good. The feeder supply included 66% steers and 34% was heifers and 85% weighed 600 pounds and over. The slaughter cows and bulls were firm to $3 higher.
