Winter Livestock auction report

The Winter Livestock feeder cattle auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 3,087 head on March 21, compared to 4,689 head last week and 3,806 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.

Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers weighing 750 to 950 pounds were selling $5 to $10 lower. The feeder heifers from 650 to 900 pounds were selling $4 to $8 lower, with instances of $12 lower. The steer and heifer calves experienced an extremely lower undertone on a light supply of medium and large frame 1 stock. The trade was slow and the demand was light. The feeder supply was 62% steers and 38% was heifers with 78% weighing over 600 pounds. The slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $4 lower.
