Winter Livestock auction report

The Winter Livestock feeder cattle auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 4,121 head on Jan. 24, compared to 1,571 head last week and 4,667 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.

Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers weighing from 600 to 750 pounds were steady to firm and those 750 to 1,000 pounds experienced a higher undertone when compared to last week. The feeder heifers from 600 to 850 pounds were firm to $3 higher. The steer and heifer calves were firm to higher undertone noted on a light test. The trade was active and the demand was good. The feeder supply included 57% steers and 43% was heifers with 82% weighing 600 pounds and over. The slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $3 higher.
