OKC West Livestock market report
The OKC West Livestock, El Reno, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 4,693 head on March 28, compared to 7,263 head last week and 11,396 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers and heifers were selling $3 to $5 higher with exception of steers weighing over 900 pounds that were firm to $2 higher. The demand was good for feeder cattle. The steer and heifer calves were selling $1 to $3 higher on limited comparable sales, with the exception of 550- to 600-pound heifer calves trading sharply higher. The quality was average to attractive with demand moderate to good especially for thin fleshed long weaned calves. The feeder cattle supply included 59% steers, 40% was heifers and 2% was bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 80%.
