Dalhart livestock auction report
The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,752 head selling on April 19, compared to 2,360 head a week ago and 2,160 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling firm in a limited test. Feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were selling mostly steady, there were instances of 700 to 800 pound steers selling $1 higher. Receipts on offer included several load lots coming off winter wheat pasture. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $2 to $3 lower. Trade and demand was moderate. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 450- to 925-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 15%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 85%. The feeder supply included 57% steers and 43% heifers. Nearly 95% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
