Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,125 head selling on July 19, compared to 1,591 head a week ago and 1,399 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling firm in a light test. Feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were trading firm to $3 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $3 to $5 lower. Trade was fairly active. Demand was fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 500- to 950-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 19%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 81%. The feeder supply included 49% steers and 51% heifers. Nearly 92% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Dairy slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1695 lbs., 48.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1200 to 1450 lbs., 44.00 to 48.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 42.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 42.50 to 47.00; low dressing, 35.00 to 40.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1900 lbs., 75.00 to 84.00; high dressing were not tested; low dressing were not tested.
