Aberdeen livestock auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 5,667 head on March 21, compared to 6,866 head last week and 7,900 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, ther steers weighing under 700 pounds were not well compared, those 701 to 1,000 pounds were selling $5 to $10 lower, except those from 850 to 900 pounds were selling $1 to $4 lower. The heifers from 650 to 850 pounds were selling $6 to $10 lower and those 851 to 900 pounds were selling $1 to $3 lower. There was moderate to good demand for this large offering with best demand seen for light fleshed, grass type cattle and replacement quality heifers. There were many strings, loads and packages to choose from, the majority of these being heavier weight, finishing type cattle. The steers made up 68% of the feeder supply and the heifers were 32%, with 98% weighing over 600 pounds.
