Fort Pierre Livestock Auction report
The Fort Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 6,088 head selling on Feb. 9, compared to 3,750 head selling on Jan. 26 and 7,580 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
There was no sale last week, so the market comparison is being made to two weeks ago steers from 550 to 750 pounds were selling generally $2 to $4 lower, the 750 to 800 pounds steers were selling mostly steady to a dollar lower. No comparison made on other classes of steers due to limited test. Heifers from 650 to 700 pounds were selling $2 to $4 lower, the 700 to 750 pound heifers were selling $4 to $8 lower, while the 750 to 800 pounds heifers were selling steady to $2 lower. No comparison made on other classes of heifers due to a limited test. Good to very good demand for all weights and classes with many long strings and full loads of high quality cattle in this offering. Several long strings of replacement heifers going back to the country. The feeder cattle offering was 64% steers, 36% heifers and 96% weighing over 600 pounds.
