Aberdeen cattle auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 3,242 head June 20, compared to 4,982 head last week and 2,142 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, the steers weighing 900 to 950 pounds were selling $3 to $4 higher, those 951 to 1,000 pounds were steady to $1 lower and those 1,001 to 1,100 pounds were selling $2 to $3 higher with instances of $5 higher. The best test was on heifers weighing 900 to 950 pounds that were selling $3 to $4 lower. There was good to very good demand for strings and loads of finishing type cattle depending on flesh condition. There was cattle suitable for back grounding and grass programs were met with very good demand. The flesh varied again, from light to heavy. The quality was very similar to the previous week with some of the same consignors from last week bringing cattle again this week. It was an active market seen for the offering. There were less producers attending the sale as hay season has begun. Steers made up 63% of the feeder supply and heifers were 37% with 92% weighing over 600 pounds.
