Hub City cattle auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 3,543 head on Sept. 12, compared to 1,422 head two weeks ago and 3,845 head a year ago, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
This sale was not reported last week due to light feeder receipts. When compared to two weeks ago, a much lighter offering occurred two weeks ago with limited comparisons available. The best test was on steers weighing 900 to 950 pounds and they were mostly steady and heifers weighing 950 to 1,000 pounds were selling $5 to $6 higher. There was good to very good demand for many packages, loads and a few strings of yearling cattle offered. There was good demand for several packages of spring calves and was the first offered so far this season. The steers made up 45% of the feeder cattle and heifers were 53% with 88% weighing over 600 pounds.
