Lexington Livestock Market report

The Lexington Livestock Market, Lexington, Nebraska, reported receipts of 2,168 head selling on Aug. 17, compared to 2,083 head on Aug. 3 and 1,524 head last year, according to the Nebraska Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Kearney, Nebraska.

Compared to the Aug. 3 sale, steers over 750 pounds were selling $2 to $5 higher and heifers over 850 pounds were selling $3 higher. Demand was good from the buyers in the crowd. Around 390 head of slaughter cows and bulls are included in the receipts. The calf and feeder supply included 61% steers and 34% heifers with the balance on bulls. Nearly 85% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
