Lexington Livestock Market report

The Lexington Livestock Market, Lexington, Nebraska, reported receipts of 1,730 head selling on May 23, compared to 1,945 head selling on May 9 and 1,790 head last year, according to the Nebraska Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Kearney, Nebraska.

Compared to the May 9 sale, 700- to 750-pound heifers were selling $2 higher, 800 to 850 pounds heifers were selling $3 lower. Demand was good from the buyers in the crowd. Around 390 head of slaughter cows and bulls sold along with 560 cow/calf pairs and bred cows sold in the mix. The calf and feeder supply included 42% steers and 58% heifers with nearly 86% of the run weighing over 600 pounds.
